exploring the interactions of light and matter on a nanometer scale
light matter interactions
Interactions of light with matter occur all around us from interactions of sunlight with our retina to the photocurrent effect exploited in laser printers. My research focuses on the interactions of light with quantum states found within a semiconductor. Central to my work is the controlled confinement of photons with micro-optical resonators. By placing semiconductor material inside these resonators the confined photons interact with the quantum states of the semiconductor, which is measured using a variety of spectroscopic techniques.
