Prof. Marc Desmulliez was born in Lille (North, France) in 1963 and holds four degrees: Diplome d’Ingenieur d’Electricite of Supelec (Paris, France), Master of Advanced Studies (Cambridge, UK), College diploma in Microwave and Modern Optics (UCL, UK) and Ph.D. in Optoelectronics (Heriot-Watt, UK).
After a couple of years working as a manager of the Electrical Maintenance Department of a steel factory in France, he became Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in 1996, Senior Lecturer in 1999, Reader in 2001 and Professor in 2006. With Drs. Kay and Abraham, he span out the Company MicroStencil in January 2003 specialized in the manufacturing of electroformed stencils for the microelectronics industry. He also founded the Microsystems Engineering Centre (MISEC) in 2000, which specializes in no silicon microsystems and advanced manufacturing technology.
Marc Desmulliez is married with two daughters and enjoys movies, reading and long distance running.
