Open Days

The Department of Physics holds regular Open Days throughout the year and additionally welcomes groups of students from schools by arrangement at mutually convenient times. The scheduled Open Days are primarily for students who have applied or who are thinking of applying for a place on one of our undergraduate courses. Parents or guardians are also very welcome to attend all or part of the days activities and discussions.

What happens on an Open Day?

The Open Day starts in the Physics Department at 11 am. when you have a brief presentation about the Department followed by a guided tour showing some of the teaching and research facilities. Lunch is provided, during which there is a chance to chat informally with members of staff. Afterwards there is an informal tour of our Campus and Residences and brief talk explaining careers in Physics. Throughout the day there will be a the chance to ask us about any aspect of student life. The day finishes at around 3.15 p.m. with tea or coffee and informal discussions with members of staff and course directors.

We believe that it is very important that you choose a University and Department where you will be happy and able to fulfill your potential. One of the best ways to help make this decision is to visit the Universities concerned and we very much hope you will be able to accept this invitation to visit our Department.
