Organic Chemistry Research Topics
Research in the organic chemistry section of the department has, as its major theme, the development of Medicinal and Biological Organic Chemistry. The design of new drugs necessarily implies an understanding of the mechanism involved, and this has also led to new research avenues involving biomimetic systems, host-guest chemistry, and the synthesis of enzyme mimics. The desire for ever more efficient routes to such molecules drives the development of new bond-forming tactics and catalytic systems. Our work is supported by funding from EPSRC, ScotChem, The Wellcome Trust, EU and ITI LifeSciences. Broad topics covered in MBOC are:
- Biological and Medicinal Chemistry - Prof. D. R. Adams
- Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Catalysis - Dr. M. W. P. Bebbington
- Medicinal Chemistry - Dr. N. M. Howarth
- Synthesis and Catalysis - Dr. A.-L. Lee
- Molecular Analysis of Eukaryotic Membrane Secretion - Dr. C. Rickman
